Nearly every one of us has been affected either directly or indirectly – by breast cancer. Predominantly a woman’s health concern, approximately one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime (www.breastcancer.org). Honoring the courage and strength of breast cancer patients and survivors, the Jamestown Ironmen, in partnership with LINKS Charity and WCA Hospital, is hosting their second “Pink the Rink” of the season on Friday, February 3rd at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
Facing the Kalamazoo K-Wings at 7:05 p.m., the Ironmen will prove that real men can wear pink, sporting custom-made jerseys emblazoned with the pink ribbon that has become symbolic of breast cancer awareness. All in attendance are encouraged to wear pink as well to show their support for this important cause.
A collaboration between Karl Sisson – WCA Director of Development, Brad Van Riper - Senior Vice President, Truck-Lite and Executive Director, LINKS Charity, Mike Ferguson – Jamestown Savings Bank Arena and Brittany Mason – Sponsorship Sales Coordinator, Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, “Pink the Rink” also includes a charity auction featuring the players’ limited edition game-worn jerseys, pink hockey sticks and other pink items autographed by Ironmen players and coaches, as well as NAHL alumni and current Buffalo Sabres Ryan Miller, Nathan Gerbe and Thomas Vanek. A silent auction of these one-of-a-kind items will take place before and during the game, and a live auction will take place following the game. To participate in the silent auction, search “Jamestown Ironmen” on www.ebay.com. Jerseys can be bid on by calling or stopping at the Front Desk at the Arena from now until the night of the game.
All of the auction proceeds, as well as $2 from the purchase of every “Pink the Rink” ticket, will benefit LINKS Charity and local breast cancer care at WCA Hospital. For pre-sale tickets, call the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena at 716-484-2624 or visit www.JamestownArena.com. When purchasing tickets for select Ironmen games, say or enter the code “Pink” and $2 of the proceeds will help fight breast cancer.
