Special emphasis on safety and the Responsibility Code is featured during various events and activities.
Skiers and riders of all ages will find SAW interesting and informative. Some of the activities planned are the Radar Gun "Guess Your Speed" course on Cindy's, planned for each night. Skiers and boarders will be tested on their ability to judge how fast they are traveling, and will learn just how slow they should be moving while in the slow skiing areas around the resort. The "Safety Sumos" from our Park Crew will be riding around the resort using humor to promote safety. Holiday Valley employees will be encouraged to promote safety to the public through their individual department or lift.
A huge tyvek banner will be hung in the Creekside Lodge for kids to write their own safety message, then the banner will be put on display. Smart Style safety messages will be hung on the clock tower to draw attention to the special week, and the Safety Patrol will man a table next to the clock tower to hand out pins and safety information.
For more information on Safety Awareness week, call 716.699.2345 or head on over to www.holidayvalley.com.

With some great cat work by Jim Curtis, and the direction of park manager Chris Perks, the first advanced jump and rail features came to fruition last week. Riders will be treated to a lofty 30’ jump, with a long steep transition just begging to be stretched out. The crew also set a 20’ launch box, to an equally forgiving transition. So far, skiers and boarders alike have been going off on these exciting new features.
In the coming weeks, we’ll see the rest of the park start to take shape, with the build-out of the Halfpipe, as well as the addition of many other features within the 42/78 park system. For those just getting started in the parks, School Haus East will play host to Holiday Valley’s first ever progression park, which will provide a safe learning environment for skiers and boarders of all ages.
Keep your eyes peeled, as there will be many exciting things happening in Holiday Valley’s park system this season!
Photo/Bob Knab.
