Events at Ellicottville Memorial Library
Books Sale, Art Showcases and More this Fall

Spread the love

By Barbara Arnstein

If you would rather keep books from the library than return them…now’s your chance to create your own home library! The Ellicottville Memorial Library is having a book sale, which will continue until October 6th at 5pm, giving you plenty of time to stock up reading material for the cold months not far ahead.

Besides the sale, there’s lots more at the library to enjoy. It not only has books but other media, and meeting rooms to use. There are various programs for adults and children, including a book club. For adults, there is a knitting group and a craft club (which recently did felting), and there are exercise classes. With the help of the Ancestry Library Edition reference tool, you can learn about your family tree online. Happily, the library recently bought new 27-inch computer monitors for the five patron computers, and upgraded their hard drives. Visitors who need help using computers, or with forms and printing can find it there. Every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am, there is a Preschool Storytime, which includes a few stories, a craft and music. On September 27th, from 9:30-10am, the theme of the session will be pirates. Kids at a recent session enjoyed hearing about monkeys and sloths.

Through March 23rd there are acrylic and watercolor paintings by Sandra Warrior on display. The self-taught artist painted landscapes she saw at national parks, and wildlife. Ink and watercolor illustrations by Molly Magnotto of Autumn’s beauty, will be on display through November 30th. She does ink and watercolor house portraits on a commission basis. Her work has appeared on boxes of Watson’s chocolates and has been sold at art festivals. From April 1st, 2024, to the end of June, the library will display nature photographs I’ve taken at beaches and parks, in meadows and in the woods, and other scenic spots, all around Western New York. My photos appear regularly in The Villager and this summer three of them were on display during the Springville Art Crawl.

If you live in the community and would like to speak at the library about your hobby or something you’re very interested in, they would be happy to hear from you!

The library is located at 6499 Maples Road in Ellicottville. Hours: Monday, 10am-5pm.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am-8pm; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am-5pm. For more information, call (716) 699-2842.
