The View’s the Thing!

Standing in the living room of the chalet in Great Valley I finally get a chance to look out the huge two story wall of windows in the living room, and the only thing I can say is “wow.” The panoramic view extends a full 180 degrees to the left and right. When I go out on the deck that wraps around this end of the house, the view gets even better. The bucolic scene is bedecked with late fall colors, and seems to be the idyllic Western New York landscape: a corn field, rolling hills, and a country road.
Let’s not forget the house; it too is splendid, and just about perfect. The main floor holds the large living room, with a see-through gas fireplace. On the other side of the fireplace is the dining area and kitchen. When you move from the living room to the dining room, you’ll still be able to enjoy the fire. The master suite is on the main floor as well. On the third floor are two bedrooms and a full bath. The basement is mostly unfinished, making it ready to customize. There is a finished bonus room that could be set up for a home theater. The rest of the basement is a large area, part of which could be a shop, and the rest made into a fine family room. There is an attractive glass and wood door that provides a walkout to a small patio.
Outside the owners have built what can only be called an outdoor room; a stucco pad about 20 x 20 with a high pitched roof, open on four sides. A chimney stands at the edge of the pad. Up in the roof, lights have been strung to provide atmosphere at night. I can see the area holding some comfy outdoor furniture, a barbeque, and a family enjoying a cool summer evening by the fire.
What makes this home especially tempting is that despite it rural location, it’s only a few minutes to Holiday Valley and downtown Ellicottville.
