Finnerty’s Tap Room Entering 2022 Under New Owner, Old Friends
A New Day Has Come and an Exciting Time is Ahead
By Jessica Miller

Bill Finnerty describes Finnerty’s Tap Room (5 E Washington St, Ellicottville) as an enterprise “started by a group of friends (Kevin, Mike, Freddie, Billy) and a wonderful wife (Beth Finnerty) on a dollar and a dream!” Since that first dollar and dream, Finnerty’s Tap Room has become a destination for tourists and locals alike in search of a great meal and a good drink. While Finnerty’s is of course rooted as a classic Irish pub, the Thai inspired entrees featured as well as unique Buffalo favorites boast a global and a local palate.
Friendships, favorite orders, and memories have been forged at Finnerty’s throughout the years. Bills Mafia presence is ever felt, even when the home team isn’t playing. Finnerty proudly says “This wonderful ride has coincided with a tremendous run by the Buffalo Bills and makes Finnerty’s Tap Room the center of Bills Mafia for miles on Sunday afternoons.” Hungry football fans don’t need to leave Ellicottville for their fan favorite appetizers when they are here—the award winning wings of Buffalo’s famous Wing Fest 202, and Buffalo’s Meatball Street Brawl 2019 and 2021 (hosted by Nick & Kendra Pitillo of Osteria/Villaggio) People’s Choice winner Reuben meatballs, call the Finnerty’s menu home. It’s no wonder why this pub is considered a must-stop for everything from simple, everyday dinners to milestone celebrations.
Wings, meatballs, and Zubaz are constant fixtures in the lives of local football and Finnerty’s regulars. So too is change. As of December 26, Finnerty’s Tap Room is now under the leadership of Angelo Canna with Mr. and Mrs. Finnerty preparing for their next opportunities. Canna, also known for Lucia’s on the Lake (4151 Lake Shore Rd, Hamburg), has the culinary talent and experience it takes to continue the Finnerty’s experience.
“To ensure the growth of Finnerty’s Tap Room, we have brought in Angelo Canna,” said Finnerty. “I will be handing over the keys to a man with a proven track record who has just become a local with a new local residence.” He continues, “A new day has come, and an exciting time is ahead.”
As a fellow restaurateur that moved to Ellicottville to begin his own journey, Finnerty recognizes the warmth and embrace he and his family received from their neighbors. He described himself as an “outsider” that was soon accepted into the community, and said that he would forever be in the community’s debt for the open armed acceptance they found.
Current plans for Finnerty’s Tap Room include continuing the classic features and menu items known and loved that made the pub a landmark. As the best of the earlier days is maintained, patrons can expect updates to come. Changes are for the better, with intent of integrating improvements to ensure further growth and an even better experience for all. While Beth and Bill Finnerty may have accepted promotions to the roles of regular diners, the love they gave to and received in return for their business will ensure that they’re always part of the Ellicottville community.
